Born in Finland, Matti learned Nordic skiing as a child. Many
times during the long winters he used skis to go to school when
the snow was too deep to walk. After moving the the U.S. over 40
years ago, Matti continued to keep in shape by skiing,
orienteering and running. He has been racing for more than 20
years. Recently he retired as an engineer at Beech Nut and has more
time to devote to skiing and building a log cabin in Finland. He
has been an instructor at Lapland Lake since the season of
2008-09.
