Lodging guests will want to consider
bringing their mountain bikes in the
to enjoy Lapland Lake’s
system. Used as a
cross-country ski area during the winter
months, the trails were designed by resort operator and former
Olympic skier Olavi Hirvonen.
Trails follow streambeds and
offer bicyclists incredible views. As our trails are open only
to our lodging guests during the spring, summer and fall seasons
riders will find an uncrowded and peaceful biking experience.
(In the winter season our ski and snowshoe trails are open to
day use visitors and lodging guests alike.)
Once the snow melts, the ski and
trail system offers cyclists a veritable mountain biking
Featured in Mountain Biking Eastern New
York, author Michael Margolis calls Lapland Lake’s trail system
“a self-enclosed mountain bike mecca” that “provides a variety
of mountain bike routes that will appeal to all levels and is a
work of trail art”.
Level trails appeal beginning mountain bikers, while the
intermediate and expert terrain will challenge more experienced
enthusiasts. The narrow, winding snowshoe trails offer even more
of a challenge and beautiful scenery.
Take a picnic lunch out to the Giant Pine which rests along the
shore of the Grant Stream. You will enjoy resting along the
stream after your ride, and taking in the animals, birds and
flora that thrive in the woods nearby.
You can even enjoy some of the hanging
swings that will make a great interlude before you saddle up for
more mountain cycling.
* Please call in advance for mountain biking conditions. When
the ground is wet due to spring rains or to extended rain events
in the summer or fall, trails may be closed for biking until the
ground has had an opportunity to dry. This helps to prevent
erosion and drainage damage to the trail system.
