Once the snow melts, the ski and
trail system offers cyclists a veritable mountain biking
Biking is a great activity for overnight
guests to enjoy at Lapland Lake during the
Bike rentals are available on-site or guests may want to consider
bringing their own mountain bikes to explore our
system. (Please note: our hiking and biking
trail network is only open to lodging guests.)
Trails follow streambeds and
offer bicyclists incredible scenery. As our trails are open only
to our lodging guests during the spring, summer and fall seasons
riders will find an uncrowded and peaceful biking experience.
The trails were designed by former
Olympic skier Olavi Hirvonen and are used as a
cross-country ski area
during the winter months. (In the winter season our ski and snowshoe trails are open to
day use visitors and lodging guests alike.)
Featured in Mountain Biking Eastern New
York, author Michael Margolis calls Lapland Lake’s trail system
“a self-enclosed mountain bike mecca” that “provides a variety
of mountain bike routes that will appeal to all levels and is a
work of trail art”.
Take a picnic lunch out to the Giant Pine, along the
banks of the Grant Stream. You will enjoy resting along the
stream after your ride, surrounded by the many sights and sounds
of the forested landscape. You might stop for a
snack on some of the hanging bench swings that will make a great interlude before you saddle up for
more mountain cycling.
* Please call in advance for mountain biking conditions. When
the ground is wet due to spring rains or to extended rain events
in the summer or fall, trails may be closed for biking until the
ground has had an opportunity to dry. This helps to prevent
erosion and drainage damage to the trail system.
