Writing Workshop July 20 - 21

How to tell a story: A two-day writing workshop at beautiful Lapland Lake with Alice Sparberg Alexiou

Do you write, or feel the itch to write but don’t know how to begin? Join author and journalist Alice Sparberg Alexiou for a workshop at Lapland Lake during the weekend of July 20 - 21. She will teach writers—all levels are welcome, from beginner on up—how to find a story and put it on paper, whether fiction or non-fiction.

The workshop will begin on Friday evening, when writers will meet with Alice from 8-10 to discuss story-telling techniques, and to choose a subject they want to write about. They will spend the next day crafting a short piece (500-to-1000 words). Alice will be available to answer questions, in person or by email. Writers will reconvene Saturday evening at 7, to read and critique each other’s work.   Cost is $50 per person for the workshop including light refreshments Friday and Saturday evenings.  Limited to 10 participants, advance registration required.

Alice Sparberg Alexiou divides her time between New York City and her home at Lapland Lake. She is the author of three books: Jane Jacobs: Urban Visionary, (2006), a biography of the great urban thinker; The Flatiron: The New York Landmark and the Extraordinary City That Arose with It, (2010); and Devil’s Mile: The Rich, Gritty History of the Bowery (July 2018). She has also written many articles for various newspapers, and is a longtime contributing editor at Lilith, a Jewish feminist quarterly.
