Cross Country Skiing Lessons in the Adirondacks

There’s no better place to learn the sport of cross country skiing than here at Lapland Lake in the Adirondacks! Our Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) certified Ski School offers quality instruction to everyone from the very first-timer to racers seeking to refine technique.

Lapland Lake has spent years assembling what we feel is one of the best group of professional cross country ski instructors around, and we are fortunate to have them with us! Our 15 job-sharing PSIA-certified instructors have 115 years of combined teaching experience among them, an average of more than 7 years per person, with all of those years right here at Lapland Lake! They are superb skiers, patient, dedicated, excellent communicators and, quite simply, nice folks! They’ll have you on your way in no time at all!

All adult lesson participants receive individual feedback regarding skills you have accomplished and which skills are yet to be mastered.

For the safety of our guests and staff, and to comply with New York State COVID-19 regulations, we have modified our lesson offerings for the 2020-21 season.   We will be offering mainly private/semiprivate lessons, where you or up to six members of the same family or party spend a dedicated hour with one of our instructors working on the ski technique you select (classic or skate) at the level that is appropriate for your party. Ski waxing lessons will not be offered. A limited number of adult and children’s group lessons will be available; these lessons will include individuals from different households but will be limited to six students per group.  We are not offering Reindeer Rally, horse drawn sleigh rides, evening snowshoe tours, or Ladies Day programs this season.

Advance sign-up for lessons is strongly recommended.  Advance reservations may be made by telephone, please call 518-863-4974 between 9AM and 5PM.

Private & Shared Private Lessons

In a private or shared private lesson, you or up to six members of the same family or party spend a dedicated hour with one of our instructors working on the ski technique you select (classic or skate) at the level that is appropriate for your party.  For first-timers learning classic technique, a typical session will focus on basic stride-and-glide, falling down and getting back up, proper pole positioning, skiing downhill, speed control and slowing down.

Shared private lessons are appropriate for adults, children, or complete families.  Children under 6 must be with parents.  When more than one person is in a private lesson, each participant should be of similar ability seeking to learn the same skills.

Private and shared private lessons are offered on most weekdays,  weekends, and holidays.  Advance reservation is strongly recommended; we offer same day signup only if space is available.  Price is $50 for the first person and $25 per additional person in the same shared lesson (max six in a lesson).  Lesson price does not include facility use pass or equipment rental.  Please reserve in advance by phone

Group Lessons

A limited number of adult and children’s group lessons will be available in the 2020-21 season.  These lessons will include individuals from different households but will be limited to six students per group. Adult group lessons will be for first-time skiers learning classic technique, age 12 and up.  Kids group lessons will offer classic technique instruction and activities for children ages 6 – 11.

Group lessons will be offered on most Saturday, Sunday, and holiday days.  Advance reservation is strongly recommended; we offer same day signup only if space is available. Price is $25 per person.  Lesson price does not include facility use pass or equipment rental.  Please reserve in advance by phone.
