Ten inches snow since Friday Jan 15, with more predicted this afternoon into Wednesday! We expect to have all land based XC ski trails open with the exception of the third Karhu upper expert loop. Morning trail surface should be a smooth and relatively fast snowcat groomed packed powder. We are regrooming only limited trails this morning (Vasa, Lake Trail, Olavin Uni, and Sisu). Snow is predicted to start around 1:00PM so afternoon conditions will likely be accumulating fresh snow.
We advise against skiing or snowshoeing on frozen Woods Lake at this time. Recently skiers reported areas of wet slush under the snow cover, this is at best inconvenient and could indicate ice safety issues. We plan to re-evaluate the frozen lake condition later this week, after it has time to stabilize after the upcoming snow storm. Ice skating is not available at this time and is unlikely this season. Our 12K snowshoe trail network is open. One Junior tubing hill is open. Come enjoy a fabulous outdoor day!
Day pass visitors please purchase tickets in advance in our online store; these tickets will be refunded if we are not open for skiing on the specified date. Drive-up day tickets are available only if we are under our capacity limit for the day.
Ski orienteering (self timed, honor system) is available at Lapland Lake now through January 31. It is like a treasure hunt with a detailed map of our trail system. The treasure is the satisfaction of finding a sequence of locations (controls) in order and navigating to the next control. We have a limited supply of maps of the introductory 1.3 k white course you can borrow from the office. More advanced course maps can be obtained digitally (without physical contact) by emailing [email protected]. First pick a date you would like to ski here, purchase your trail pass, and send your request for:
- An orange course – 2.4 k with 6 controls;
- Green course – 4.1 k with 10 controls;
- Brown course – 5.2 k with 15 controls; or a
- Red course – 6.6 k with 17 controls.
The cost of participating in the ski orienteering event is included in your trail pass for the day.
