Winter 2023-24 Events at Lapland Lake

 

December 16 – 10K Freestyle Race 

***Postponed***  Start your racing season with our 10K Freestyle Race.  Start time 10:00AM on Saturday December 16.  Kids race at 11:30AM.  This is an early season race, so expect early season trail conditions and check for pre-race updates.  Register online

January 27 – Ski Orienteering 

Combine your skiing and map reading skills to navigate a mapped course, finding all the control markers as quickly as possible.   The event is individually timed, start any time between 11:00AM and 2:00PM.  Multiple courses, of varying difficulty, are available.  Register onsite day of event (fee is included with your day pass purchase).  Sponsored by Empire Orienteering Club.

January 7 – February 11 Youth Skate Ski Clinic 

A six week skate ski clinic for youth aged 8 – 14.  All ability levels welcome – the clinic will introduce beginners to the technique and also help those with more experience improve and develop their skills.  Conditions permitting, the clinic will include five regular sessions on Sundays 12:45 – 2:15 (January 7, 14, 21, 28, February 4) plus participation in our Youth Festival on February 11.  Registration fee of $50 includes clinic sessions and trail pass for clinic days; equipment rental if needed must be purchased separately.  Registration form

High School Races 

We are scheduled to host two Section 2 high school races this winter: the Johnstown-Guilderland Invitational on Friday January 19, and the Mayfield Invitational on Wednesday January 31.  The practice field area and west side trails will close to the public at 1:00 on these days.  Date changes are possible based on snow and travel conditions.  Come watch and cheer the future of our sport!

Classic Technique January 20, Skate Technique February 3

Morning sessions begins at 9:30am; wrap up ends at 3:30pm

A special cross country ski program for women, taught by women. Beginner and intermediate level female skiers age 18+, grouped by ability, will receive instruction in classic (January 20 clinic) or skate (February 3 clinic) technique in the morning. After a lunch break (participants are welcome to either bring their own lunch or purchase) the clinic will meet up for a social group ski in the afternoon, and enjoy a group skills wrap-up and snack at the end of the day. The program is led by Lapland Lake’s PSIA-certified instructors. Cost for the program  includes facility use pass.
