“We’ve been visiting Lapland Lake for 10 years…..in summer, autumn and winter…..and we keep returning. Ann and Olavi are warm and gracious hosts. They offer patient assistance as they help us identify nearby trails or places to explore. I can’t imagine anyone who knows more about x-country skiing than Olavi. And there’s nothing better than having a massage in your Adirondack cottage (tupa) after a long day of hiking, cycling or skiing. The location is perfect, far from the crowds and traffic that clog many areas of the Adirondacks. There are many trails on the property that offer three levels of challenges for skiing , snowshoeing and hiking. On many trips, we never leave the property because everything we need is there. I love resting on the hammock in early evening, beside the lake, listening to the loons that return there each year. Canoes and kayaks are in great condition, and campfires with s’mores and storytelling entertain children and adults. We’ve rented trail bikes at LL, but now prefer to bring our road bikes and enjoy the miles of nearby cycling. We first heard about Lapland Lake as a premier Adirondack cross country ski resort. I’m a novice skier and have taken lessons there for 3 years. Each instructor has been patient and knowledgeable and has helped me develop skill and confidence. My partner is an experienced back-country skier and he has enjoyed the challenges of the most advanced trails. Evening skiing on the lighted Lake Trail is a lovely way to end the day. We’ve stayed in most of the cottages, and each one has been very clean and comfortable. This is not ‘roughing it’. Kitchens are well stocked with all the equipment needed to prepare meals. Bedding and towels are provided. The wood-burning stove is great on cold Adirondack days. Enclosed porches allow guests to enjoy the outdoors in the rain. We’ve traveled all over the west, but we keep returning to Lapland Lake several times each year. Everything we need is there…comfortable, secluded surroundings, meticulously maintained trails, breathtaking scenery, and the warm hospitality of Ann and Olavi.”
